Corps reviews permit requests from Eugene, Prineville and Dillard, Ore.

PORTLAND, Ore. — The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is reviewing three permit applications requesting a Department of the Army permit for certain work in waters of the United States. The public notices regarding the permit applications listed here were issued during the weeks of July 11-15 and 18-22, 2005.

Public Notice 200500428, requested by Oregon Department of Transportation. The project is located within between Coburg Road and Gateway Street in Eugene, Ore. The project’s purpose is to construct a new two-lane flyover ramp connecting northbound I-5 to westbound Beltline Road. Comments must be received by Aug. 10, 2005. Public Notice 199500076, requested by Beaver State Sand and Gravel. The project is a gravel bar near Highway 99 near Dillard, Ore. The project’s purpose is to dredge up to 3,000 cubic yards of gravel annually from the South Umpqua River. Comments must be received by Aug. 10, 2005. Public Notice 200500388, requested by Weaver Cattle Company. Project is located on Camp Creek near Prineville, Ore. The purpose is to construct four rock detention dams and modify 4,300 feet of the creek gradient, and would discharge up to 960 cubic yards of fill in wetlands adjacent to Camp Creek. The Corps of Engineers is soliciting comments from the public, federal, state and local agencies, Indian Tribes and other interested parties on these permit requests.

The Corps of Engineers will issue or deny any permit under authority of Section 404 of the Clean Water Act, for discharge of dredged or fill material into U.S. waters, and/or under Section 10 of the Rivers and Harbors Act of 1899 for work in or affecting navigable waters of the United States.

If the applicants have submitted a mitigation plan with the permit request, it will be considered. If a permit is issued, the Corps will decide on the appropriate and practicable compensatory mitigation for each proposed project.
