PORTLAND, Ore. -- Under contract with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Great Lakes Dredge and Dock’s hopper dredge Sugar Island, will begin dredging the mouth of the Columbia River at 12:01 a.m., Wednesday, June 1.
Fishermen should be aware that dredge materials will be disposed of in the Expanded Site E near Buoy 7 beginning Wednesday. The Corps will inform the public on other designated disposal sites as they are used.
All fishermen are advised that crab pots should be removed from the Expanded Site E and transit lanes during dredge operations.
The Corps dredges the navigation channel each year to provide an avenue for safe transit across the Columbia River bar for large and small vessels. Navigation across the bar is important for commercial vessels to support local, regional, and national economies.
