Corps reviews proposed permit applications in Reedsport,Diamond Lake and Roseburg ORE

PORTLAND, Ore. — The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is reviewing three permit applications requesting a Department of the Army permit for certain work in waters of the United States. The public notices regarding the permit applications listed here were issued during the week of Feb. 14, 2005.

Public Notice 199601328, requested by Port of Umpqua and Brandy Bar Landing. The project is located near Reedsport, Ore., for the purpose of maintenance dredging of the Brandy Bar Landing’s marina. Comments must be received by March 23, 2005. A copy of the public notice may be found at https://www.nwp.usace.army.mil/op/g/notices/119601328.pdf .

Public Notice 200500035, requested by the U.S. Forest Service, Umpqua National Forest. The project is located on Diamond Lake, near the town of Diamond Lake, Ore., for the purpose of eradicating non-native chub and algal blooms by draining the lake and treatment with rotenone, to restore water quality and native species. Public Notice 199900339. The project is located in wetlands adjacent to Newton Creek in Roseburg, Ore. The purpose of the project is to expand a parking are for a medical facility in the Roseburg area, impacting an additional 0.193 acre of wetland in an area that received authorization for 3.10 acres of fill in wetlands. Comments must be received by March 18, 2005. A copy of the public notice may be found at https://www.nwp.usace.army.mil/op/g/notices/199900339.pdf .

The Corps of Engineers is soliciting comments from the public, federal, state and local agencies, Indian Tribes and other interested parties on these permit requests.

The Corps of Engineers will issue or deny any permit under authority of Section 404 of the Clean Water Act, for discharge of dredged or fill material into U.S. waters, and/or under Section 10 of the Rivers and Harbors Act of 1899 for work in or affecting navigable waters of the United States.

If the applicants have submitted a mitigation plan with the permit request, it will be considered. If a permit is issued, the Corps will decide on the appropriate and practicable compensatory mitigation for each proposed project.
