Portland, Ore. -- On Oct. 9, 1998, teachers are invited to learn "Everything You Need to Know about Dams" at the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers' Bonneville Lock and Dam on the Columbia River 40 miles east of Portland.
The free all-day workshop, sponsored by the Corps, the Northwest Interpretive Association, and the Bonneville Power Administration, will offer educators a chance to learn about hydropower production and its impacts on salmon. Teachers attending the workshop will receive teaching materials about dams and salmon, including the Teachers' Guide to Bonneville Dam. The workshop is part of Washington Water Weeks activities.
The workshop will be held at the Bradford Island Visitor Center, from 9:30 a.m. until 4 p.m., on Oct. 9. For more information, or to register, please call Bonneville Dam at either the Washington Shore Visitor Center, (509) 427-4281, or the Bradford Island Visitor Center at (541) 374-8820.
Attendees from Oregon can reach the Bradford Island Visitor Center by taking exit 40 from Interstate 84 to Bonneville Lock and Dam, then following the signs to the Visitor Center. Those from Washington need to follow State Highway 14, cross into Oregon over the Bridge of the Gods, turn west toward Portland on I-84 and exit at Bonneville Lock and Dam.
