PORTLAND, Ore. — The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is seeking comments on two applications for permits to conduct work in waters of the United States. The public notices regarding these permit applications were issued during the week of June 15, 2008.
Public Notice NWP-2008-273 describes a proposal by Mountain West Senior Housing to place fill material in 1.94 acres of wetlands in Salem, Ore., in order to construct a senior living campus.
Public Notice NWP-2008-326 describes a proposal by Tillamook County to install a spillway within an existing levee surrounding pastureland property at 210 Tone Rd. near Tillamook, Ore., in order to reduce nuisance flooding.
The Corps is soliciting comments on these proposals from the public; federal, state and local agencies; Indian Tribes; and other interested parties. The public notices which provide more information are available at http://www.nwp.usace.army.mil/op/g/public.asp. Comments must be received by July 17.
The Corps issues or denies permits under authority of Section 404 of the Clean Water Act for discharge of dredged or fill material into U.S. waters, and/or Section 10 of the Rivers and Harbors Act of 1899 for work in or affecting navigable waters of the United States.
