PORTLAND, Ore. — The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is seeking comments on two applications for permits to conduct work in waters of the United States. The public notices regarding these permit applications were issued during the week of April 6, 2008.
Public Notice NWP-2008-31 describes a proposal by Wahl Ranches and Co. to restore Elk River Spit near Sixes, Ore., to its historic height and condition. The proposal would discharge about 74,000 cubic yards of sand and non-native European beach grass into the Pacific Ocean.
The Oregon Department of State Lands project number was listed incorrectly on the public notice for this project. The DSL project number should be 40165-RF.
Public Notice NWP-2007-363 describes a proposal by Roger and Barbara Hansen to culvert 187 feet of a tributary to Whetstone Creek and place fill in an abutting pond in order to develop a residential subdivision and associated infrastructure in White City, Ore.
The Corps is soliciting comments on these proposals from the public; federal, state and local agencies; Indian Tribes; and other interested parties. The public notices which provide more information are available at http://www.nwp.usace.army.mil/op/g/public.asp. Comments must be received by May 10.
The Corps issues or denies permits under authority of Section 404 of the Clean Water Act for discharge of dredged or fill material into U.S. waters, and/or Section 10 of the Rivers and Harbors Act of 1899 for work in or affecting navigable waters of the United States.
