PORTLAND, Ore. — The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is seeking comments on an application for a permit to conduct work in waters of the United States. The public notice regarding this permit application was issued during the week of Feb. 24, 2008.
Public Notice NWP-2008-62 describes a proposal by the City of Portland’s Bureau of Parks and Recreation to create a new regional riverfront park, the South Waterfront Greenway, as part of the Portland Development Commission’s North Macadam Urban Renewal Area.
The proposal calls for removing about 9,338 cubic yards of material below the ordinary high water elevation, and filling in about 8,668 cubic yards. The impact area below ordinary high water would be 0.83 acre.
The Corps is soliciting comments on this proposal from the public; federal, state and local agencies; Indian Tribes; and other interested parties. The public notice which provides more information is available at http://www.nwp.usace.army.mil/op/g/public.asp. Comments must be received by March 31.
The Corps issues or denies permits under authority of Section 404 of the Clean Water Act for discharge of dredged or fill material into U.S. waters, and/or Section 10 of the Rivers and Harbors Act of 1899 for work in or affecting navigable waters of the United States.
