Corps seeks comments on Portland, Yamhill permit applications

PORTLAND, Ore. — The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is seeking comments on four applications for permits to conduct work in waters of the United States. The public notices regarding these permit applications were issued during the week of Feb. 24, 2008.

Public Notice NWP-2006-856 describes a proposal by Big Eddy Marina to remove up to 60,000 cubic yards of material over five years from within 14.6 acres of the Columbia River at 19609 N.E. Marine Drive in Portland, Ore.

The purpose of this proposal is to maintain safe navigational water depths to the marinas’ boat slips, docks and household moorages. Comments must be received by March 26.

Public Notice NWP-2006-925 describes a proposal by Islands Moorage to remove up to 60,000 cubic yards of material over five years from within 11.8 acres of the Columbia River at 18989 N.E. Marine Drive in Portland, Ore.

The purpose of this proposal is to maintain safe navigational water depths to the marinas’ boat slips, docks and household moorages. Comments must be received by March 26.

Public Notice NWP-2008-28 describes a proposal by the Port of Portland to perform maintenance dredging at Berths 601 and 607 of Marine Terminal 6 on the Columbia River in Portland, Ore. A total of 10,000 cubic yards of material would be removed from 7.9 acres.

The purpose of this proposal is to maintain suitable navigational depths for loading and offloading at the berths. Comments must be received by March 31.

Public Notice NWP-2008-92 describes a proposal by Premier Pacific Vineyards to construct a dam and reservoir to impound water for irrigation south of Woodland Loop Road near Yamhill, Ore. The proposal would impact a total of 4.93 acres of wetlands and other U.S. waters.

Comments on this proposal must be received by March 31.

The Corps is soliciting comments on these proposals from the public; federal, state and local agencies; Indian Tribes; and other interested parties. The public notices which provide more information are available at http://www.nwp.usace.army.mil/op/g/public.asp.

The Corps issues or denies permits under authority of Section 404 of the Clean Water Act for discharge of dredged or fill material into U.S. waters, and/or Section 10 of the Rivers and Harbors Act of 1899 for work in or affecting navigable waters of the United States.
