PORTLAND, Ore. — The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is seeking comments on an application for a Department of the Army permit to conduct work in waters of the United States. The public notice regarding this permit application was issued during the week of Feb. 3, 2008.
Public Notice NWP-2008-51 describes a proposal by the City of Cottage Grove, Ore., to remove Rujada Dam on Layng Creek near Cottage Grove. The dam is no longer in service, and the U.S. Forest Service requires the removal of the structure and all non-native materials in the immediate vicinity.
The Corps is soliciting comments on this proposal from the public; federal, state and local agencies; Indian Tribes; and other interested parties. Comments must be received by March 7. The public notice which provides more information is available at http://www.nwp.usace.army.mil/op/g/public.asp.
The Corps issues or denies permits under authority of Section 404 of the Clean Water Act for discharge of dredged or fill material into U.S. waters, and/or Section 10 of the Rivers and Harbors Act of 1899 for work in or affecting navigable waters of the United States.
