Corps reviews Baker City permit application

PORTLAND, Ore. — The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is reviewing an application for a Department of the Army permit to conduct work in waters of the United States. The public notice regarding this permit application was issued during the week of Dec. 30, 2007.

Public Notice NWP-2007-1027, requested by John Kleinhoff. The proposed project is located in tributaries of the Powder River near Baker City, Ore.

The applicant proposes to improve the water storage capacity of two existing ponds by excavating about 2,432 cubic yards of material from one pond and 1,920 cubic yards from the other. The proposed activities will also enhance habitat for non-native bass and upland wildlife species.

Comments on this proposal must be received by Feb. 1.

The Corps is soliciting comments on this proposal from the public; federal, state and local agencies; Indian Tribes; and other interested parties. The public notice which provides more information is available at http://www.nwp.usace.army.mil/op/g/public.asp.

The Corps issues or denies permits under authority of Section 404 of the Clean Water Act for discharge of dredged or fill material into U.S. waters, and Section 10 of the Rivers and Harbors Act of 1899 for work in or affecting navigable waters of the United States.
