Corps reviews permit applications from Rogue River, Grants Pass, Port Orford and Klamath Falls, Ore.

PORTLAND, Ore. — The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is reviewing five applications requesting a Department of the Army permit for certain work in waters of the United States. The public notices regarding the permit applications listed here were issued during the week of Aug. 7, 2006.

Public Notice 200200637/3, requested by Jackson County Roads and Park Services. The project is located at river mile 111, in the city of Rogue River, Ore. The applicant proposes to complete work on the new Depot Street Bridge crossing, which would include removing the temporary boat ramp and replacing it with a permanent boat ramp, constructing a fishing platform and placing riprap. Public Notice 200600535, requested by Buntin Construction. The project is located on Redwood Avenue in Grants Pass, Ore. The applicant proposes to fill 1.26 acres of wetland in order to construct a residential development on 6.6 acres, to include sidewalks, utility lines and access roads. Comments must be received by Sept. 8, 2006. A copy of the public notice may be found at https://www.nwp.usace.army.mil/op/g/public.asp.

Public Notice 200300025/1, requested by Copeland Sand & Gravel. The project is located on the Applegate River near Grants Pass, Ore. The applicant proposes to excavate 28,000 cubic yards of gravel in order to create a planting bench and help decrease erosion while reclaiming a captured gravel pit. Comments must be received by Sept. 5, 2006. A copy of the public notice may be found at https://www.nwp.usace.army.mil/op/g/public.asp.

Public Notice 200500632, requested by Oregon State Parks and Recreation Department. Project is located at Tseriadun State Recreation Site at Garrison Lake in Port Orford, Ore. The applicant proposes to install a permanent outlet channel (overflow) for Garrison Lake to substantially reduce flooding of adjacent properties during winter months. Public Notice 199500822, requested by Jeld-Wen. The project is located north of Highway 140 between Lakeshore Drive and Highway 97 near Klamath Falls, Ore. The applicant proposes to place fill into 2.66 acres of drainages and wetlands to construct a residential community on a 700-acre site, to include sidewalks, utility lines and access roads. Comments must be received by Sept. 8, 2006. A copy of the public notice may be found at https://www.nwp.usace.army.mil/op/g/public.asp.

The Corps of Engineers is soliciting comments from the public, federal, state and local agencies, Indian Tribes and other interested parties on these permit requests.

The Corps of Engineers will issue or deny any permit under authority of Section 404 of the Clean Water Act, for discharge of dredged or fill material into U.S. waters, and/or under Section 10 of the Rivers and Harbors Act of 1899 for work in or affecting navigable waters of the United States.

If the applicants have submitted a mitigation plan with the permit request, it will be considered. If a permit is issued, the Corps will decide on the appropriate and practicable compensatory mitigation for each proposed project.
