Corps to hold public informational meeting July 18, in Corvallis, Ore.
PORTLAND, Ore. -- The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is holding, a public informational meeting from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m., Tuesday, July 18, at the Santiam Christian Schools’ choir room, located at 7220 N.E. Arnold Ave., Corvallis, Ore., to provide the public an overview of the Military Munitions Response Program (MMRP), Site Investigation (SI) process and the current work plan.
The Corps is evaluating Formerly Used Defense Sites (FUDS) that had historically been used for military training. One of these sites is Camp Adair and Adair Air Force Station, located in parts of Polk, Benton and Linn counties, near Corvallis, Ore.
The Corps will do this evaluation by conducting a MMRP, SI. The SI will be conducted in the next few months by a Corps contractor, Shaw Environmental. The work to be performed will include access to and a visual inspection of property that was part of the Camp Adair and Adair Air Force Station. The inspection may also include soil and/or water sampling.
Camp Adair was constructed in 1942 and served as a training facility for several army divisions. The camp was vacated in 1947. During the short operation of the camp it was the second largest city in Oregon. The Air Force operated Adair Air Force Station in what now is Adair Village during the 1960s.
