PORTLAND, Ore. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will host Geology Day at Bonneville Lock and Dam, Saturday, July 15, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The interpretive staff of the Bradford Island Visitor Center will provide programs relating the geology of the Northwest to the human experiences on the Oregon Trail, as well as discuss the impact geology had on the placement of the Bonneville Dam.
Geology films will be shown throughout the day concluding with an environmental educational program hosted by Steve Carlson at 2 p.m. Carlson is a geologist and former president of the Oregon Science Teachers Association. His program will focus on the geologic development of the Northwest and the Columbia River Gorge.
In addition to the Bradford Island Visitor Center, also be sure to visit the Bonneville Fish Hatchery, home to Herman, the 10-foot long sturgeon.
The Bradford Island Visitor Center at Bonneville Lock and Dam is located at exit 40 on Interstate 84. Admission is free and the visitor center is open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
