Public information meeting on Hayden Homes permit request scheduled in Eugene

PORTLAND, Ore. — The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and Oregon’s departments of Environmental Quality and State Lands will host a public information meeting June 29 to discuss an application for a Department of the Army permit by Hayden Homes.

Representatives from each agency will present an overview at 6 p.m. at the Lane County Public Service Building, 125 E. 8th Ave., Eugene, in Harris Hall. After the overview, members of the public are welcome to provide comments to the representatives.

Public Notice No. 200500150, which describes the project in greater detail, is available on the Portland District website at https://www.nwp.usace.army.mil/op/g/public.asp. The applicant has requested authorization from the Corps of Engineers and departments of State Lands and Environmental Quality to discharge fill into 25.62 acres of wetlands adjacent to Greenhill Tributary to construct a 217-lot residential subdivision. The proposed project is located south of Avalon Street in west Eugene, Ore.

The Corps, DSL and DEQ are soliciting comments from the public; federal, state and local agencies and officials; Indian Tribes and other interested parties in order to consider and evaluate the impacts of this proposed activity. The decision whether to issue a permit will reflect the national concern for both protection and utilization of important resources.

Comments about this application may be furnished orally at the public information meeting, or may be in writing. All written comments received regarding this permit decision will be included in the permit application and considered when evaluating whether to grant a permit. Any and all comments submitted by mail will bear the same weight as any comments furnished at the public information meeting.

Written comments should be sent to the following address and must be received before July 17, 2006:

The certification is a determination by DEQ that federally licensed or permitted activities, which may result in a discharge to waters of the state, comply with the state’s water quality standards. DEQ will conduct a review and evaluation for the proposed project regarding any potential water quality issues during consideration for certifications.
