Corps seeks former Camp Adair Rights of Entry by April 28

PORTLAND, Ore. — The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers mailed 595 Real Estate Right of Entry forms last week to property owners in the former Camp Adair area near Corvallis, Ore. Entry rights are required in order for the Corps to conduct a Military Munitions Response Program (MMRP) Site Investigation (SI) related to the former Camp Adair. This investigation is intended to establish whether munitions and/or munitions-related constituents are present.

The Corps is asking property owners to mail their completed forms back by April 28. “We would like to have the completed forms back by the end of the month to facilitate a timely, smooth flow in preparing our site inspection plan,” said Bill Graney, project manager.

The SI will begin as early as July with the findings reported by the end of the calendar year. Public meetings are tentatively planned for July and October of this year. The SI will be done by a Corps contractor, Shaw Environmental. The work to be performed will include access to and a visual inspection of property that was part of the former Camp Adair. The inspection may also include limited soil and or water sampling, according to Graney.

Camp Adair was constructed in 1942 and served as a training facility for several army divisions. The camp was vacated in 1947. During it’s short operation Camp Adair was the second largest city in Oregon. The Air Force operated Adair Air Force Station in the 1960s, in what now is Adair Village.

More information will be available on the former Camp Adair as it comes available on Portland District’s website at https://www.nwp.usace.army.mil/pa/fuds/adair.
