Corps reviews permit applications for Deschutes, Marion and Clatsop counties

PORTLAND, Ore. -- The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is reviewing three permit applications requesting a Department of the Army permit for certain work in waters of the United States.

Public Notice 200600036, requested by the city of Salem, Ore. The project is located between Stayton and Turner in Marion County. The proposed project is to construct a 69-inch water transmission line to meet the city’s anticipated future water needs. A mitigation plan has been submitted by the applicant. Comments must be received by March 16, 2006.

Public Notice 199701562, requested by the city of Warrenton, Ore. The project is located along the Columbia River near Hammond, Ore. The proposed project would involve dredging 47,450 cubic yards of material from within the Hammond Boat Basin. The materials would be placed in the Columbia River. Comments must be received by March 6, 2006.

Public Notice 199500015/1, requested by River Bend Limited Partnership. The project is located within the City of Bend, Ore. The proposed project calls for the reconfiguration of an industrial pond, reducing its size from 0.9 acres to 0.32 acres, and using it for storm water runoff and irrigation for surrounding landscaping. Comments must be received by March 14, 2006.

The Corps of Engineers is soliciting comments from the public, federal, state and local agencies, Indian Tribes and other interested parties on these permit requests. The Corps will issue or deny any permit under authority of Section 404 of the Clean Water Act, for discharge of dredged or fill material into U.S. waters, and/or under Section 10 of the Rivers and Harbors Act of 1899 for work in or affecting navigable waters of the United States.
