Corps of Engineers issues modified state programmatic permit

PORTLAND, Ore. — The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers issued a modified Oregon State Programmatic General Permit, which was developed to reduce regulatory duplication while enhancing resource protection in Oregon.

The SPGP was developed in cooperation with Oregon Department of State Lands, which has regulatory authority over waters of the State of Oregon. The permit was issued under the authority of Section 404 of the Clean Water Act and Section 10 of the Rivers and Harbors Act of 1899.

The modifications to the permit include minimal changes to provide clarification of phrases within the permit, said Corrie Veenstra, policy specialist for the Corps of Engineers. No substantive changes were made to the original permit, Veenstra added.

The regional general permit was issued for a period of two years and will expire Jan. 3, 2008. A copy of the complete SPGP, including a description of authorized categories, can be found on the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ website at http://www.nwp.usace.army.mil/op/g/spgp.asp.
