Bonneville Dam Washington Shore Visitor Center to open

Portland, Ore.- The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers announced today that the Washington Shore Visitor Center at Bonneville Lock and Dam would open Tuesday, April 1.

The visitor center was expected to re-open March 1 after being closed over the winter months. The delayed opening was due to repairs needed to the visitor center caused by heavy winter rains.

"Although we are not completely finished with the repairs, the majority of the work is done" said Bonneville Lock and Dam operations manager Jim Mahar. "Some areas will be cordoned off until finishing touches are applied, however, we believe it is safe to re-open the facility at this time."

Jim Runkles, Bonneville Lock and Dam park manager said, "We are looking forward to re-opening the Washington Shore Visitor Center, especially the popular fish viewing area."

The Washington Shore Visitor Center is located on Washington State Highway 14 at milepost 40. Bradford Island Visitor Center on the south shore is located at Exit 40 off of Interstate 84. Both centers are open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. seven days a week.

Due to current security levels all visitors are required to show photo identification at the beginning of their visit.
