Corps to change phone numbers, Internet address

Portland, Ore. -- People interested in doing business with the Portland District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, should be ready to change how they get in contact with the agency. The agency recently announced a change in its telephone numbers and Internet address.

The Internet address will change Saturday, May 24. The majority of the phone numbers will change Sunday, June 8. Corps numbers for the Northwestern Division and Hydroelectric Design Center have already been changed. Only numbers in the Portland area are affected by the change.

Starting on Tuesday, the agency's new World Wide Web address will be: http://www.nwp.usace.army.mil. The address change is the result of a Corpswide reorganization that occurred April 1.

The change will not affect E-mail addresses.

The most obvious change for people wanting to contact the Corps is phone numbers. The agency is switching from the prefix 326 to 808. And, along with that change comes new extensions. During the next three months, callers dialing any of the agency's main lines will hear a recording announcing the change and new number. All other lines will only be announced as having been changed.

Phone number changes are the result of needed technology upgrades.

Callers are encouraged to call the Corps' information line at (503) 808-5150, after June 8, if there are questions concerning a changed number. Phone numbers and E-mail addresses for individuals also are available by name through the agency's Internet homepage .
