Correction: Closure time for navigation lock at John Day

Portland, Ore. -- The navigation lock at the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers' John Day Lock and Dam on the Columbia River east of Portland, Ore., will close at 9 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 4, and remain closed until 5 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 5. The beginning of the closure period was announced incorrectly last week.

The John Day closure is in addition to an earlier announced closure of the navigation lock at Bonneville Lock and Dam, from 7 a.m. until 5 p.m. on Aug. 5, 1999.

The lock closures have been coordinated with commercial shipping interests and major recreational users of the river.
