Portland, Ore.— The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is evaluating a permit application from Northwest Aggregates, Co., that would allow annual maintenance dredging of the Santosh Barge Channel on the Columbia River near Scappoose, Ore..
As part of its permit evaluation process, the Corps is requesting public review and comment on the proposed project prior to making its determination on whether to issue or deny a permit for the work.
The sand and gravel company is requesting authority to remove, if required, a maximum amount of 10,000 cubic yards of material each year for five years; the material would be deposited at the Santosh Pit Site for processing. Annual maintenance dredging of the channel would allow the company to reclaim sand and gravel spilled at the barge-loading site as well as maintains adequate draft depths for barges using the site.
