Portland, Ore. -- The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is evaluating an application to construct an earthen dam for irrigation near Salem, Ore. As part of its permit evaluation process, the Corps is requesting public comments on the proposed project prior to making its determination on whether to issue or deny a permit for the work.
The applicant, EGM, LLC, proposes to fill one-tenth acre of wetland to create a reservoir with a storage capacity of about 77 acre-feet. The site is located on an unnamed tributary of Rogers Creek near Sunnyside Road in Salem.
The Corps will consider whether the proposed project meets standards of the Clean Water and Endangered Species acts and will look at the overall impact of the project on the affected area. The project is not expected to affect endangered species or critical habitat.
