Corps seeks input on boulevard extension project in Corvallis

Portland, Ore. -- The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is evaluating an application from Corvallis Public Works to extend Walnut Boulevard and provide for access to a development site in Corvallis, Ore. As part of its permit evaluation process, the Corps is requesting public comments on the proposed project prior to making its determination on whether to issue or deny a permit for the work.

The work would consist of extending Walnut Boulevard northwest from Jack London Road to the southeast across the South Pacific Railroad tracks to a new intersection between NE Conser Street and NE Seavy Avenue, and southwest to a new intersection with Circle Boulevard. The extension would include creating three traffic lanes, and adding bike lanes, sidewalks and a landscaped barrier between the road and sidewalks. The purpose of the work is to reduce traffic congestion and increase access between Highway 99 W and Highway 20. The new road also would access a commercial development site north of the railroad tracks. The project would impact about 2.4 acres of wetlands in the area.

The Corps will determine if the proposed project meets standards of the Clean Water Act.

For a copy of the Corps’ Public Notice 1999-01489, which describes the proposed project in detail, please write to U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, ATTN: CENWP-OP-GP, P.O. Photocopies of drawings supporting the proposed project are included in the public notice.
