Portland, Ore. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is trying to get Oregon youth hooked on fishing rather than drugs.
To help in that goal, Corps officials will host the annual Foster Lake Fishing Derby from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, June 10. Registration begins at 8 a.m.
Kids ages 7 to 19 will be able to cast a line in hopes of catching the "big one." A special fishing pond will be set up for junior anglers – those age 6 and under.
In addition to the free day of fishing, visitors and participants will be able to take tours of Foster Dam and the South Santiam Fish Hatchery.
Children ages 6 and under must be accompanied by an adult. Children ages 7 and older must have a permission slip signed by a parent. To obtain a permission slip or to receive additional information, please call the Sweet Home Boys and Girls Club at (541) 367-6421.
The Foster Lake Fishing Derby is co-sponsored by: U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, U.S. Forest Service, Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife – South Santiam Fish Hatchery, Oregon State Police, Linn County Sheriff, Sweet Home Police Department, Sweet Home Boys and Girls Club, Northwest Steelheaders Association, The New Era, KFIR, and KSKD.
