Corps seeks input on Fazio Farms industrial site in Portland

Portland, Ore. -- The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is evaluating a permit application from Fazio Farms to fill about 2.28 acres of wetland to develop an industrial site in Portland, Ore. As part of its permit evaluation process, the Corps is requesting public comments on the proposed project prior to making its determination on whether to issue or deny a permit for the work.

The work would include construction of parking, storage and maintenance areas for semi-trucks and trailers. The project would be located south of NE Gertz Road, east of NE 13th Ave., and north of the Columbia Slough in Portland. The applicant has proposed mitigation for the loss through provision of a tree and shrub canopy and restoration of other channels at the site. As part of the evaluation process, the Corps will determine if this mitigation proposal is adequate.

The Corps will consider whether the proposed project meets standards of the Clean Water and Endangered Species acts and will look at the overall impact of the project on the affected area. The proposed project is not expected to impact endangered species or critical habitat.

For a copy of the Corps’ Public Notice 99-1238, which describes the proposed project in detail, please write to U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, ATTN: CENWP-OP-GP, P.O. Box 2946, Portland, OR 97208-2946. A copy of the public notice is available on the Corps’ Internet site at https://www.nwp.usace.army.mil/op/g/notices/199901238.pdf. Photocopies of drawings supporting the proposed project are included in the public notice.
