Portland, Ore. -- The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is evaluating a permit application from the City of Cannon Beach to perform maintenance work on a drainage channel that surrounds the Little Pompey Wetland in Cannon, Ore. As part of its permit evaluation process, the Corps is requesting public comments on the proposed project prior to making its determination on whether to issue or deny a permit for the work.
The work would consist of removing vegetation and silt that has accumulated over the past 10 years. This would restore the channel’s ability to carry storm water and prevent flooding in the area. Workers would remove about 222 cubic yards of material from the channel. The Corps will consider whether the proposed project meets standards of the Clean Water, Coastal Management Zone and Endangered Species acts and will look at the overall impact of the project on the affected area.
