Portland, Ore. -- The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is evaluating a permit application from the City of Rainier, Ore., to construct a new public boating access facility on the Columbia River. As part of its permit evaluation process, the Corps is requesting public comments on the proposed project prior to making its determination on whether to issue or deny a permit for the work.
The proposed boat ramp would be built on a site north of Rainier. The proposed location is a former Corps of Engineers dredge soil disposal site near the city park and Highway 30 in Columbia County. The old boat ramp in downtown Rainier would be removed. The Corps will consider whether the proposed project meets standards of the Clean Water and Endangered Species acts and will look at the overall impact of the project on the affected area.
For a copy of the Corps’ Public Notice, which describes the proposed project in detail, please call William Davis at (503) 808-4388, or access the notice on the Corps’ Internet site at https://www.nwp.usace.army.mil/op/g/notices/200000058.pdf. Photocopies of drawings supporting the proposed project are included in the public notice.
Written comments should reach the Corps by April 24, 2000, and should be mailed to
