Portland, Ore. -- The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is evaluating a permit application from the City of Eugene Public Works to fill about 15 acres of wetland as part of an airport expansion project. As part of its permit evaluation process, the Corps is requesting public comments on the proposed project prior to making its determination on whether to issue or deny a permit for the work.
The work would be done in five phases over a 10-year period. The expansion would require the realignment of Green Hill and Airport roads, construction of a new runway, taxiway and safety areas at the ends of existing runways. The Corps will consider whether the proposed project meets standards of the Clean Water and Endangered Species acts and will look at the overall impact of the project on the affected area. The proposed project is not expected to impact endangered species or critical habitat.
For a copy of the Corps’ Public Notice, which describes the proposed project in detail, please call Chris Thoms at (503) 808-4385, or access the notice on the Corps’ Internet site at https://www.nwp.usace.army.mil/op/g/notices/199901575.pdf. Photocopies of drawings supporting the proposed project are included in the public notice.
Written comments should reach the Corps by April 3, 2000, and should be mailed to
