Portland, Ore. -- The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is evaluating a permit application from
H & H Holdings Corps., Inc., to perform bank stabilization work and construct a moorage on the Coquille River in Coquille, Ore. As part of its permit evaluation process, the Corps is requesting public comment on the proposed project prior to making its determination on whether to issue or deny a permit for the work.
H & H is seeking authorization to place about 100 pilings 3 feet to 4 feet apart along 300 feet of bankline. The pilings would hold about 240 cubic yards of rock riprap. The applicant is also requesting authorization to construct an 8-foot by 25-foot dock, a 25-foot-long gangway, and a 50-foot debris boom.
For a copy of the Corps of Engineers' Public Notice, which describes the proposed project in detail, please call Ron Marg at (503) 808-4380, or access the notice on the Corps' Internet site at http://www.nwp.usace.army.mil/op/g/Regs/Pub_bull.htm>.
Written comments should reach the Corps by Jan. 31, 2000, and should be mailed to: U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Attn: CENWP-OP-GP (Ron Marg), P.O. Box 2946, Portland, Ore., 97208-2946. Comments also may be sent via e-mail to ron.e.marg@usace.army.mil>.
The Corps also is soliciting comments from federal, state and local agencies and officials, American Indian tribes, and other interested parties.
The Corps will issue or deny the permit under Section 10 of the Rivers and Harbors Act and Section 404 of the Clean Water Act. A Water Quality Certification, as required under Section 401 of the Clean Water Act, will be needed from the State. Because the proposed activity may affect listed salmon species, a decision will not be made until the Corps consults with the National Marine Fisheries Service.
