EAST LANSING, Mich. -- Michigan State University Extension (MSUE) 4-H Youth Development will cheer on the MSU women’s basketball team in a game against Wisconsin Jan. 25 at the MSU Breslin Center. “MSUE 4-H Day with the Lady Spartans” is a celebration of the MSUE 4-H program in Michigan.

Tickets are free for 4-H members, volunteers and their families, and MSUE staff members and families. Ticket ordering information will be available in early December at http://web1.msue.msu.edu/cyf/youth/member/cool.html, or call 1-888-MSUE-4MI to contact your county Extension office.

This year’s women’s basketball celebration will pay special tribute to the entrepreneurial spirit of 4-H youth and volunteers. 4-H has been supporting Michigan’s economic growth by teaching youth how to be tomorrow’s entrepreneurs. Several 4-H entrepreneurial clubs will have their products on sale during the game.

“Youth who participate in entrepreneurial endeavors learn important life skills -- such as working as a team, taking risks and learning from failures -- that can have a positive impact on their future,” said Erica Tobe, program leader in youth financial literacy for MSUE. “Helping youth turn their passions into business ventures can also benefit our economy and help our youth succeed in the future.”

Besides displaying their business skills, 4-H’ers will also sing the national anthem and lead the 4-H pledge before the start of the game. There will also be an opportunity to get photos with Sparty, the MSU cheerleaders and possibly the Lady Spartans. Attendees are asked to wear their green or white 4-H or MSUE apparel to show off their 4-H/MSUE pride and support.

The game starts at 2 p.m.; the doors will open for the MSUE 4-H group at noon and for the general public at 12:30 p.m. MSUE and 4-H attendees should enter the Breslin Center at Gate D. Transportation may be coordinated through your county MSU Extension office. Parking is free for all school buses; all other buses are $20. Car parking costs $5.

4-H will have displays and staffers on hand to provide information on the youth development program as well as how to get involved with 4-H. Contact your county MSU Extension office for more information on this event or Pat Talbot at 517-432-7616 or talbotp@msu.edu.
