IV. FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF OELA COMPONENTS

A. IMMEDIATE OFFICE OF THE ASSISTANT DEPUTY SECRETARY AND DIRECTOR (ET)

The Assistant Deputy Secretary and Director of OELA serves as the principal advisor to the Secretary on Departmental matters related to the education of linguistically and culturally diverse students. The Assistant Deputy Secretary and Director coordinates with other programs in the Department serving LEPs and provides national leadership and support for the programs and activities for which administrative authority have been delegated by the Secretary. The Assistant Deputy Secretary and Director, through his/her office, finalizes policy and national dissemination efforts of English Language Acquisition and other programs that serve limited English proficient students. The office of the Assistant Deputy Secretary and Director is also responsible for the coordination and implementation of outreach activities with OELA's various constituencies.

Located within the Office of the Assistant Deputy Secretary and Director, and under the direction of the Assistant Deputy Secretary and Director and Deputy Director, the executive office provides administrative support on manners related to budget and finance, human resources, acquisition and procurement, information technology support, and grants and contracts. The Assistant Deputy Secretary and Director, through the Deputy Director, provides overall direction, coordination, and leadership to the executive office and to the three Divisions: Special Initiatives Division, State Consolidated Grants Division, and Continuation and Professional Development Grants Division.
