Welcome to Chemistry
Chemistry plays an integral role in today's scientific endeavors. As science has become increasingly interdisciplinary, fundamental scientific problems focus on the chemical nature of matter.
The faculty and staff of the Department of Chemistry provide an environment where students at all levels can explore, discover, and learn chemistry through coursework and research.
Graduate School?
The Department of Chemistry provides students a great opportunity to continue their education in both traditional and interdisciplinary areas. Our program offers flexible coursework, unique training opportunities, and financial support. Check us out!
Analytical Chemistry Programs Ranked Among the Best
"We're quite pleased that our stellar program in analytical chemistry is again ranked No. 2," said Jeffrey S. Vitter, former Dean of the College of Science. "We also made very positive gains in computer science, rising two points, and we expect even more gains when our new Lawson Computer Science Building, with its state-of-the-art facilities, opens this year. Overall, six programs in science earned national rankings, which confirms Purdue a true leader in the direction of science programs."

Purdue professor to lead American Chemical Society in 2010
Joseph S. Francisco, William E. Moore Distinguished Professor of Earth and Atmospheric Science and Chemistry, has been elected president of the American Chemical Society for 2010.
Established in 1876, the American Chemical Society (ACS) is the world’s largest scientific professional association with more than 160,000 members in chemistry, chemical engineering and related fields.
Dr. Francisco’s message to ACS members during his candidacy emphasized the importance of promoting innovation and entrepreneurship in the chemical sciences and the need to prepare students to thrive in a global economy.
Francisco will succeed 2009 ACS president elect Dr. Thomas H. Lane, a Dow Corning director and 1974 Purdue chemistry undergraduate.
