College Prep > Partnering with California Schools

The University of California has established a variety of partnerships with local K-12 schools and community-based programs to improve student preparation as well as teaching, curriculum, and other services that affect a student’s college eligibility.

K-20 Intersegmental Alliances
UC is engaged in partnerships with nearly 400 California public schools. K-20 Intersegmental Alliance programs on UC campuses collaborate with K-12 schools and districts, community colleges, CSU, business and non-profit organizations to improve the quality of schools and districts. These partnerships incorporate teacher-centered and curriculum-based programs aimed at training and developing teachers and strengthening the academic foundation at partner schools where students' performance is below the statewide average. The partnerships support efforts to ensure that students have access to high-quality instruction and are able to meet high academic standards in "a-g"courses.

University-Community Engagement
University-Community Engagement supports and promotes campus-community collaboration dedicated to improving K-12 student learning and achievement. UCE promotes collaborations and partnerships that respect and build community capacity to improve student learning and achievement, and work to connect community organizations to a wealth of UC resources. UCE helps UC campuses assess opportunities for community partnership, identify gaps and needs, and plan for long-term, sustainable community relations that raise student achievement and close achievement gaps. UCE also serves as an information clearinghouse on programs, resources and research on community partnership and collaboration.

UC Links
UC Links is a statewide network of more than two dozen after-school programs that provide computer-based educational resources and opportunities to K-12 elementary and middle school children who do not have access to these resources in their homes, schools, or neighborhoods. Through UC Links, UC students work closely with K-12 students as they engage in computer activities that develop mathematics, science and basic literacy skills.

ArtsBridge and UC Arts in the Community Programs
UC ArtsBridge has provided arts education to more than 24,000 public school children in 267 schools throughout California and also works to improve the quality of K-12 curricula. ArtsBridge will work to ensure that California school children can meet the new "g" requirement of one year of visual or performing arts for UC admission.
