Description: WBIS contains biographies of some 4 million men and women, living and deceased, from all social classes and professions, from all countries and regions, from 4000 BC to the present. Entries come from over 8,600 reference works published since 1559 in 40 languages and comprising more than 15,000 volumes. In addition to the digitized biographical articles from 15 Biographical Archives, the WBIS Online database currently provides an index to 34 Biographical Archives, totaling short biographies on more than 4 million people.
When completed in 2009, WBIS will contain 10 million biographies of more than five million men and women. WBIS Online selected components:
