Research Project:
Farm-Scale Economic Analysis of Adoption of No-Till in the Ft. Cobb Reservoir Watershed
Location: Great Plains Agroclimate and Natural Resources Research Unit
Project Number: 6218-13000-010-02
Project Type:
Specific Cooperative Agreement
Start Date: Aug 01, 2007
End Date: Jul 31, 2012
Objective:
To provide an economic assessment of selected conservation practices to meet desired environmental endpoints (e.g., improved water quality) within the Ft. Cobb Reservoir watershed at the farm scale. The objective for this research corresponds to sub-objective 3c.1 in CRIS entitled ¿Hydrologic Impacts of Conservation Practices in Oklahoma Watersheds¿ (6218-13000-0010-00D), and relates to the 48 month milestone for this sub-objective. Additionally, the objective corresponds to sub-objective 4a (goal 4.1 in milestone table) of the multilocation ¿Conservation Effects Assessment Project ¿ The ARS Watershed Assessment Study.¿
Approach:
Water quality, meteorological, soil, and farm-level (e.g., equipment type and depreciation, herbicide and fertilize cost and usage) data will be collected and used within the Farm Level Economic Model (FEM) to determine the cost/benefit of adopting no-till and determine the length of time required to realize positive cash flow, as part of a decision support system development.
