Join culinary expert Amy Riolo for a lecture, tea, and cooking demonstration. Learn how concepts of design, worship, and aesthetics evident in Moroccan jewelry and art influenced the Moroccan table. Sip orange blossom water while Moroccan delicacies are prepared. Followed by book signing.

(ages 8-14 with adult) More than a hundred years ago American artist Dwight William Tryon used pastels to capture the many moods of the sea. Today, Japanese artist Hiroshi Sugimoto takes black-and-white photographs that meld sea and sky. Discover their works in the Sackler Gallery, and then draw with pastels and charcoal in the classroom to create your own seascape to take home.

(2008, 89 min., Persian with English subtitles, directed by Ali Atshani, Iran) In this engaging comedy that takes a light approach to death and the afterlife, Hamid, a workaholic, has everything his modern lifestyle requires but no time to enjoy it -- until a freak accident delivers him at death's door. Welcomed by the ghosts of his just-deceased uncle and another accident victim, Hamid discovers that being a prankish spirit in the city isn't such a bad deal after all.

The Smithsonian Chamber Music Society celebrates its 32nd season with an appropriately eclectic repast, balancing familiar masterworks with undeservedly neglected pieces. This evening, The Smithsonian Consort of Viols -- Marie DalbyCatharina Meints, Kenneth Slowik, Craig Trompeter, and Brent Wissick -- perform the music of Orlando Gibbons, William Byrd, and Christopher Tye. The Society's artistic director Kenneth Slowik continues his popular pre-concert lectures, discussing the life and times of the featured composers one hour before the program.
