Flood Preparation & Response
The Watershed Protection & Flood Mitigation Section of the CWCB provides leadership to assist in the preparation for and recovery from actual major flood events in Colorado, including technical and field activities such as: 1) coordination of federal, state, and local resources through the Colorado Flood Task Force, 2) dissemination of pertinent flood related information through the CWCB's website, 3) documentation of flood damages and flooded areas, 4) mapping and re-mapping of regulatory flood prone boundaries as appropriate based on the best available information, and 5) technical guidance and support to communities on a case by case basis.

The CWCB Staff also provide expertise with pre- and post-flood mitigation efforts. We are capable of offering technical and financial assistance to support community or multi-sponsor plans and projects aimed at reducing flood losses. This includes technical guidance for near- and long-term decision making as a result of emergency flood conditions.

Please remember that flood response actions (e.g. flood warnings, evacuations, sandbagging, flood rescues, etc.) are handled at the local level through appropriate emergency management, fire & rescue, and law enforcement departments.
