Watershed Restoration Program

In Colorado, there are more than forty local watershed initiatives involving citizen-based watershed groups. They vary in their missions and participants all share a common focus: a strong commitment to protect the health of the aquatic systems and the life that depends on them. Often these groups are collections of existing groups that are interested in working on common problems through a consensus approach. The CWCB is proud to be able to help support these efforts through the following funds.

The 2006 Construction Fund Bill created a watershed restoration appropriation for planning and engineering studies for watershed restoration and flood mitigation projects throughout the state. Prospective grantees need to apply to the Program by January 31st of each year. For more information about the Program, please review the following documents:

Colorado Healthy Rivers Fund
House Bill 08-1241 changed the Colorado Watershed Protection Fund to the Colorado Healthy Rivers Fund (CHRF). The legislation also continued the authorization for CHRF to be part of the Colorado Individual Income Tax Refund Check-off Program. The Check-off Program gives taxpayers the opportunity to voluntarily contribute to watershed protection efforts in Colorado. For more information on CHRF and its history, please visit the Colorado Watershed Assembly.

Watershed groups need to apply to the CHRF by April 30th of each year. For Information about applying to the CHRF, please review the following documents (revisions reflecting the name change will be available by March 1, 2009).
