Charge

Provide a means for faculty, professionals, and administration to interact and to discuss, formulate, and recommend university policy to the appropriate university authority. The Faculty Council and Professional Council Constitutions describe the powers of the University Governance Council to recommend such policy, always within the constraints of the Montana University System powers as described in the Constitution of the State of Montana.

Meetings

4:10 p.m. on the second Wednesday of the month during the academic year, and otherwise as called by the Chair. All meetings are conducted according to the MSU policy on open meetings.

Membership

Voting Members: the total current membership of Faculty Council and of Professional Council. Elected alternates to the regular members may attend and vote in the absence of the members to whom they are alternates.

Nonvoting Member: Parliamentarian of University Governance Council.

Nonvoting Ex Officio Members: MSU President; Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs; Vice President for Administration and Finance; Vice President for Research, Creativity and Technology Transfer; Vice Provost for Student Affairs; representative of Dean's Council; representative of Assistant Deans' Council; chair of CEPAC; President of ASMSU (these ex officio members may send a designee); Secretary of University Governance Council.

Length of Term

Elected members serve concurrent terms with membership in Faculty Council or Professional Council. P=partial term.

Appointed By

Elected members are elected by their individual constituencies according to the By-Laws of Faculty Council and Professional Council.

Mechanism for Changing This Information

Changes may be made to committee structure and information only in accordance with Faculty Council and Professional Council Constitution and By-Laws. Authorization of changes comes only through the Secretary to University Governance Council, with the approval of the current Chair and Vice Chair of University Governance Council.
