The Smithsonian's 21st Century Consort has been performing riveting music of our time for more than three decades. Led by artistic director Christopher Kendall, the consort includes some of Washington's finest musicians. The theme of today's program reflects the magic of spring through the works of Allen Schindler, William Doppman, and Jacob Druckman. Reception follows concert.

The Smithsonian Jazz Masterworks Orchestra (SJMO) looks back five decades to reflect the importance of 1959 as a time of transition in the jazz world. be played. Under the direction of David N. Baker, SJMO investigates the intersection of new creative approaches and jazz and performs Miles Davis's Kind of Blue, a masterwork that greatly influenced the history of jazz.
