January 12, 2009--Dolores Soil Conservation District earns recognition for tamarisk work (Cortez Journal)

The Dolores Soil Conservation District racked up recognition toward the end of 2008 for tamarisk removal efforts spent within the community. Toward the end of last year, the district's supervisor, Steve Miles, won the Outstanding Supervisor Award for 2008 at the Colorado Association of Conservation Districts' annual meeting. In a letter of recommendation from the district's president, Miles was lauded with successfully organizing the Dolores Tamarisk Action Group, or D-TAG, in 2005, which since then has obtained over $200,000 in funding to control and remove tamarisk, an invasive plant species surrounding McPhee Reservoir and the tributaries above it.
