NIEHS POLICY FOR APPLICANTS PLANNING TO SUBMIT R21 FOR PA-02-093 RELEASE DATE: January 29, 2004 NOTICE: NOT-ES-04-004 National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS) (http://www.niehs.nih.gov) The purpose of this notice is to alert the scientific community that effective immediately, applicants requesting R21 support through the Program Announcement PA-02-093, “Environmentally Induced Cardiovascular Malformations,” by the NIEHS will comply with the requirements of the current NIH-wide Program Announcement PA-03-107, “Exploratory/Developmental Research Grant Award”, available at http://grants.nih.gov/grants/guide/pa-files/PA-03-107.html. Specifically, the NIEHS will accept R21 applications that request a project period of up to two years with a combined budget for direct costs of up to $275,000 for a two-year period. For PA-02-093, this is an increase from $100,000 per year for a two-year period. The request should be tailored to the needs of the project, but no more than $200,000 may be requested in any single year, and the research plan may not exceed 15 pages.
