Biology Department Hosts Jan. 15 Dentistry Seminar at USU
USU pre-dental students and Cache Valley dental health professionals are invited to a free campus seminar on innovations in dentistry Thursday, Jan. 15.
Utah State University pre-dental students and Cache Valley dental health professionals are invited to the seminar “Ongoing Changes in Dentistry – 2009” Thursday, Jan. 15, on the USU campus. The gathering, hosted by USU’s Biology Department, features dentist Gordon Christensen and registered dental hygienist Rella Christensen, co-founders of the Provo-based Clinical Research Associates Foundation.
The seminar, free of charge, will be held from 4-6 p.m. in the Haight Alumni Center. Parking is available in the nearby Aggie Parking Terrace at 700 E. 600 North.
Founded in 1976, the CR Foundation is an internationally known dental products testing institute. The foundation publishes product reports in Clinicians Report, a monthly newsletter for dental professionals and educators printed in 10 languages and distributed in more than 90 countries.
Gordon Christensen, a USU alum, is the founder and director of Practical Clinical Courses, which provides hands-on continuing education seminars for dental health professionals. He earned a DDS degree from the University of Southern California, a MSD degree from the University of Washington and a doctorate from the University of Denver. A longtime USU supporter, he received an Honorary Doctor of Science from Utah State in 1999.
Rella Christensen serves as team leader of the Technologies in Restoratives and Caries Research Foundation, a non-profit institute dedicated to clinical studies of restorative materials, preventive dentistry and dental caries. A graduate of the University of Southern California, she was a practicing dental hygienist for more than 25 years. She earned a doctorate in physiology, with an emphasis on microbiology, from Brigham Young University and completed additional postgraduate studies in anaerobic microbiology at Virginia Polytechnic State University.
