Zone Forecasts for the Nevada Area
Zone forecasts are the main forecast product issued by the National Weather Service. You may select from one of the local products below, or from a list of zone forecasts from around Nevada.

Local Areas:

Nevada locations:

Surrounding States:

Spot Temperature and Precipitation Forecasts (CCF)
Temperature and precipitation (POP) forecasts for selected cities in Nevada and the surrounding states. These forecasts used to be included in the Zone Forecast products. Click on the "DECODE CCF" link to learn how to interpret the CCF product, and to find out the complete name of all of the CCF stations.

Nevada & Surrounding States:

State Forecast Table
This NEW product is a tabular version of the old State Forecast Product (SFP), which replaces a worded description of the forecast with columns and blocks of forecast parameters, such as highs/lows and POPs...for days 1 through 7. In addition, the weather forecast has been reduced to a simple word or phrase describing the predominant weather for a given day. This product will eventually replace the standard State Forecast Product (SFP); and each forecast office will produce their own product covering their CWA.

Nevada & Surrounding States:

Point Forecast Matrix (PFM)
The newest NWS product is called the "Point Forecast Matrix" (PFM) and it takes the form of a large TABLE, full of forecast parameters similar to what you find in the various MOS text guidance products. Using data taken from the NWS Digital Database, it comprises a 7 day forecast for the five stations included in the Coded Cities Forecast. Some of the forecast parameters include: max and min temperature, wind speed, direction and character, cloud cover, sensible weather, POP and QPF forecasts, and dew point. If you need help in decoding this new product, view the "Point Forecast Matrix Key" and the secrets of the PFM will be revealed!

Nevada & Surrounding States:

Forecast Discussions
These are technical discussions prepared by NWS meteorologists. They are intended primarily for other meteorologists and media interests, but you are welcome to view them. Note, however, that these discussions can contain technical meteorological terminology and some coded contractions that may be confusing to those outside the meteorological community.

Short Term Forecasts (Nowcasts)
Nowcasts are short-range weather outlooks for up to 6 hours. In the past some offices issued these products on a routine basis; however, short-term forecasts are now supposed to be issued only when some type of significant weather is occurring in the area. Note the time on the product displayed.

Nevada & Surrounding States:

Hazardous Weather Outlook
This product will be issued, at a minimum, once per day, at 600 am MST. Updates will also be issued as needed, depending on the weather situation. This product will highlight any hazardous weather expected in the area CWA, from short-fused convective warnings (SVRs), to long fused winter weather watches or warnings, and will cover the period from day one through day seven. The product will consist of both headline information, with directives on which NWS products to reference for more detailed information, as well as brief descriptions of the expected hazardous weather.

Nevada & Surrounding States:

Extended Outlooks
A variety of extended range products issued by the National Weather Service.

National 6-10 / 8-14 day outlook (text)

Current Surface Observations (METARs)
These reflect current weather conditions at many observing stations from around Nevada and her bordering states. Many of these observations are from NWS ASOS units (Automated Surface Observing Systems). Some of the observed parameters include: sky condition, visibility, temperature, dew point, wind and pressure (as well as additive remarks).

RAWS Observations

These Remote Automated Weather Stations are not owned by the NWS, rather by various wildland fire agencies such as BLM. These stations report a variety of weather elements such as temperature, dewpoint, wind and RH. The RAWS stations listed in the drop down lists below are located within the Phoenix CWA. To view RAWS observations from around the country, click the following link: RAWS OBS AROUND THE U.S. For additional information about the RAWS program, check out the "RAWS HOME PAGE".
