Photovoltaic Systems

The USDA Rural Development's Electric Programs are now considering acceptance of small photovoltaic electricity generating systems to be used on systems of our electrification borrowers.

The acceptance process for these systems is similar to the acceptance process used for other types of materials and equipment - see our Technical Standards Committees page.

Initially, we will only be considering photovoltaic systems used for grid-connected applications without battery storage and off-grid livestock water pumping without battery storage. The evaluation criteria provides specific details of the types of systems that are to be considered.

Systems that are granted acceptance will be eligible for financing by the Electric Programs when purchased by our electrification borrowers in accordance with Agency regulations. A list of accepted photovoltaic systems is now available.

Sandia National Laboratories Solar Systems Department and the Florida Solar Energy Center will be assisting us in the technical review portion of the acceptance process.

Companies interested in applying for acceptance should contact us for the information that must be provided, evaluation criteria details, as well as the procedure to be followed in submitting applications.

Questions concerning the acceptance process should be directed to Harvey Bowles at (202) 720-0980, or by e-mail to Harvey.Bowles@wdc.usda.gov. Technical questions should be directed to Mr. Stephen Barkaszi of the Florida Solar Energy Center at (321) 638-1473, or by e-mail to barkaszi@fsec.ucf.edu.
