2008 was indeed an exciting year -- for UAF, Alaska, the nation and beyond. Sometimes that excitement was less than welcome, as has certainly been the case with our nation's economy. UAF has named two Alaska Native doctoral students as its first Mellon Dissertation Fellows, funded generously by a gift from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation. As Mellon Fellows, Theresa John and Jordan Lewis are each eligible to receive a $30,000 stipend, and research and travel funds in addition to tuition and fees.
