Reclamation Commissioner Bob Johnson congratulates Dr. John England, Engineer of the Year.

Reclamation's Engineer of the Year Award winner is Dr. John England of the Technical Service Center, Flood Hydrology and Meteorology Group. England has pioneered the research, development and application of new techniques to estimate extreme flood probabilities for dam safety. He has also overseen their use in Reclamation's risk-analysis procedures.

As a member of Reclamation’s risk cadre, England is developing methods for assessing the hydrologic aspects of dam safety with the Corps of Engineers. England chairs a task group that is currently writing new federal guidelines for estimating the probability of extreme floods. These guidelines will have an impact on the ways Reclamation, the Corps and the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission design dams and assess their safety.
