What's New at the NDBC Web Site?

2008

  • December - NDBC has created an NDBC Observation Page using an interactive Google Map displaying stations reported on the NDBC web site. The default display is a global map showing all established stations from the NDBC web site. The user can select stations by program and/or operator; pan and zoom to his favorite location; bookmark a favorite view; and click a station marker for recent observations.

  • April - Discontinued project. - Stations 46023 and 46054 will be disestablished at the first available opportunity. The stations are non-NWS funded stations for which the operating agreement between the NWS and the Program Sponsor has expired and will not be renewed. In the absence of the stations, the NOAA-NDBC directs the 46023 users to station 46011 (Santa Maria, CA) and 46054 users to station 46063 (Point Conception, CA) which are currently located eleven (11) nautical miles from the disestablished stations.

  • March - DART buoy network expansion complete! NDBC deployed a new water level measuring buoy in the Pacific. This completes the planned expansion of the NOAA tsunami reporting network and brings the total number of DART stations to 39.

  • February - DART buoy network expanded. NDBC deployed four new DART buoys in the Pacific. This brings the total number of DART water level measuring stations in the NOAA tsunami reporting network to 38.

  • January - Waves/ocean buoy at Buzzards Bay! NDBC established WAMDAS buoy 44070 and added it to the Rhode Island map.

2007

  • December - Wave Rider buoy added to the North Carolina map! The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers established station 44056 at Duck, NC.

  • December - Waves/ocean buoy at Cook Inlet, Alaska! NDBC established WAMDAS buoy 46106 and added it to the Prince William Sound map.
