How to apply for a job at Purdue University

Three drivers share responsibility on the road to your new job.
  1. You: apply for positions that are of interest to you and that you meet the minimum qualifications for.
  2. Employment Consultant: reviews your resume for each position that you apply for and determines if you meet the minimum qualifications; forwarding only those that qualify to the hiring supervisor.
  3. Hiring Supervisor: determines who the most competitive applicants are.

Submit your resume following these steps:

  1. Create a username and password.

  2. Supply your e-mail address.
    (Free e-mail accounts are available at Gmail, Hotmail and Yahoo.)

  3. Complete your online profile, using either of the following methods:

    • Fill out the profile yourself by manually entering all requested information.

    • Attach your electronic resume and let the system fill out your profile for you.
      (The Web site provides instructions about how to do this.)

  4. If you attach a resume in Step 3 (above) when completing your profile, Hiring Supervisors will see your profile, plus a copy of the actual resume you attach. If you do not attach a resume in Step 3, you may do so after completing your profile or at anytime in the future.

Important things to know.

  1. Purdue Employment handles a large volume of job inquiries. There are more than 10,000 applicants sending in more than 85,000 referrals annually. Because of this large number of activity, we are unable to personally respond to every applicant. When you submit your profile/resume you will receive an email acknowledging receipt. You will also receive an email thanking you for applying after you have applied for a specific position. Neither the hiring supervisor nor the employment consultant can provide specific details to applicants about vacancies.

  2. The applicant pool is highly competitive at Purdue; just meeting the minimum qualifications does not guarantee an interview.

  3. Be sure to update your profile and resume if your information changes. You can now do this on-line at your convenience.

  4. Hiring timeframes vary by position and department. It is not recommended to call and inquire the status of your application, neither the hiring department or HR can give this information to applicants.

    If you are hired...

    The Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986 requires Purdue University to verify that each person hired is authorized to work in the United States. If you are offered employment at the University, you will need to present appropriate documentation to prove your identity and your employment eligibility. You must present the document(s) on your first day of work. Additionally, you are required by law to sign a document attesting under penalty of perjury that the documents you present are genuine and relate to you.
