Research Project:
Understanding and Managing Thiamethoxam and Imidacloprid Resistance in the Colorado Potato Beetle
Location: Invasive Insect Biocontrol and Behavior Laboratory
Project Number: 1275-22000-234-09
Project Type:
Specific Cooperative Agreement
Start Date: Sep 28, 2007
End Date: Sep 30, 2009
Objective:
To gain knowledge necessary for sound resistance management practices to maintain effectiveness of neonicotinoid insecticides for control of Colorado potato beetle.
Approach:
Increasing levels of resistance of Colorado potato beetle to neonicotinoid insecticides and the spread of this resistance among populations threaten the growers¿ ability to economically control pestiferous populations. Monitoring resistance of the beetle to currently used pesticides and gaining knowledge of new products is essential for maintaining effective control strategies. Testing of trap crops will facilitate their use in resistance management.
